The Centre believes that perhaps the most helpful way to counteract negative and limiting stereotyping is to promote the idea of a 'growth mindset' outlined by Professor Carol Dweck. This argues that potential is not fixed or limited and that our abilities grow as a result of hard-work, effort and good teaching and learning strategies. This viewpoint then negates the idea of abilities fixed by gender, race or upbringing.
We have a whole section of the website devoted to Professor Dweck's work.
