In this section we look in particular at how materialistic values, now widespread in modern consumer societies, may undermine well-being and flourishing and what are better alternatives.

Research shows that spirituality can play an important part in the subjective well-being of individuals. Is it necessary to be ‘religious’ in order to have a spiritual element in our lives and what are the ways in which we can enhance spiritual feelings? These are some of the ideas covered in this section.
